ASM rankings 2026: attack surface management tools scored from discovery to fix
THE SHORT ANSWER
IONIX leads at 8.05 out of 10, followed by watchTowr at 7.25. The ranking asks one question: Discovery or proof: which ASM tool finds your exposed assets, proves which ones are exploitable, and gets them fixed? Proof and containment carry 20% each, so tools that only discover score lower here than their scan coverage suggests; on proof alone, watchTowr, CyCognito and Hadrian lead.
How do the ten tools rank?
| Rank | Tool | Closure score | Stations documented | Best for | Gartner Peer Insights (context, not scored) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | IONIX | 6 of 6 | Large enterprises with many subsidiaries that want exposures contained and fixed, not only listed | 4.8 (17 ratings) | |
| 02 | watchTowr | 5.5 of 6 | Teams exposed to fast-moving exploits that want edge rules pushed while patches wait | 13 ratings, average not captured | |
| 03 | CyCognito | 5 of 6 | Teams that want proof and a retested fix, starting from nothing but a company name | 4.7 (39 ratings) | |
| 04 | Hadrian | 4.5 of 6 | Teams replacing periodic external pentests with continuous, agent-based proof | Not among the cards read | |
| 05 | Cortex Xpanse | 3.5 of 6 | Palo Alto Networks Cortex estates that want automated response through XSOAR | 4.5 (66 ratings) | |
| 06 | CrowdStrike EASM | 3 of 6 | CrowdStrike Falcon customers who want external exposure in the same console as endpoint and vulnerability data | 4.5 (101 ratings) | |
| 07 | Tenable ASM | 2 of 6 | Tenable One customers who want external assets in the same exposure view | Not among the cards read | |
| 08 | Rapid7 Surface Command | 2 of 6 | Rapid7 customers who want external and internal inventory in one product | Not among the cards read | |
| 09 | Censys ASM | 2.5 of 6 | Threat intelligence and hunting teams that want raw internet scan evidence | 4.4 (13 ratings) | |
| 10 | Microsoft Defender EASM | 2 of 6 | Azure-first teams that want a self-serve start and Azure billing | 4.3 (151 ratings) |
Gartner Peer Insights figures for the External Attack Surface Management market, read 11 October 2026. Rating counts are small and self-selected, figures change daily, and they do not enter our scores. IONIX's all-markets product page shows 4.7 from 27 ratings; the market card shows 4.8 from 17.
How far a tool, as its own public pages describe it, carries an exposure from an asset nobody listed to an exploitability check, a compensating control, an owner's ticket and a retest. It is not a measure of overall product quality or of discovery breadth alone.

Published prices: Free (5 infrastructure targets), Cloud $239 a month or $2,870 a year, Pro $399 a month or $4,790 a year, Enterprise custom, excluding VAT; AI web app pentests from $3,500 per test; 14-day free trial. Scanner-led, so outside this ranking's question.
Detectify
Surface Monitoring, application, API, internal and PCI ASV scanning. Annual platform fee from Starter €0, Standard €2,500, Professional €5,000 and Enterprise €15,000, with Surface Monitoring charged per domain and extra costs for added assets. Scanner-led, so outside this ranking's question.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a tool with internet-wide scanning rank in the middle?
Because discovery is one of seven criteria, worth 15%. Proof of exploitability and containment carry 20% each. Cortex Xpanse scores 8 on finding assets but its pages reviewed do not describe exploitability validation.
Is CrowdStrike Falcon Surface included?
Yes. It is now sold as CrowdStrike EASM under Falcon Exposure Management, and it ranks sixth of ten at 5.55. We scored it from CrowdStrike's EASM and Exposure Management pages and its data sheet, read 13 October 2026. It scores well on stack fit and documents ticketing and SOAR workflows, but its pages do not describe active exploit testing, owner attribution or a retest after a fix.
What does a tie mean?
Totals are shown to two decimals, and tools with the same shown total share a rank. No tools are tied on default weights.
